About Universal Beams (UB)
Universal Beams (UBs) are I-shaped sections used primarily as beams in bending. They have a deeper cross-section relative to their width, making them efficient at resisting bending moments. UBs are the most commonly used structural steel section in UK construction, found in portal frame rafters, floor beams, lintels, and transfer structures. Available in serial sizes from 127x76 to 1016x305.
This page shows section properties for all 96 standard UK universal beams (ub) from the Tata Steel Blue Book (SCI P363). Properties include dimensions, cross-sectional area, second moment of area, elastic and plastic section modulus, radius of gyration, and torsional properties. All values are per BS 4-1:2005 / BS EN 10365.
