IFC to Excel: a free steel list from any IFC file
How it works
- Drop your IFC file into the box above. The file is parsed in your browser using WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded.
- Every steel element is extracted. Concrete, timber, and other non-steel materials are filtered out automatically.
- Each section name is matched against the UK canonical library (UB, UC, PFC, SHS, RHS, CHS, EA, UA, Tee sections). Sections we can’t match by name fall back to dimensions extracted from the IFC geometry.
- You get a live 3D view, a steel list, and a spreadsheet (CSV or Excel XLSX) ready to send to your supplier for pricing.
What you get out
- Section, type, grade, finish, quantity, length each, kg/m, total kg per row
- Total tonnage broken down by canonical-matched mass and dimension-estimated mass
- Pre-built Excel XLSX with formulas to drop in your supplier’s rates and get a line total
- Direct links to every section’s SteelSpec data page (properties, dimensions, capacities)
Free IFC viewer with UK steel section matching
If you just want to view an IFC file, this works as a free online IFC viewer too. The 3D view, orbit, fit, top, side and front controls all work without downloading anything. The difference vs a generic viewer is that every steel element is identified against UK section standards, so you can read off what each member actually is.
What if a section isn’t recognised?
Click the 🚩 flag icon next to it. We add commonly-flagged sections to the library so the next person who uploads a similar file gets a clean match.
